Adults Born in Slovakia Years Ago to U.S. Citizen Parents
There are provisions in U.S. law that—in certain circumstances—allow a U.S. citizen parent to transmit U.S. citizenship to children born outside the United States. Two requirements for transmission of citizenship are that the parent must have been a U.S. citizen at the moment of the child’s birth and that there must be a parent-child relationship by blood. Additional requirements for acquisition of U.S. citizenship at birth depend on additional factors in accordance with the law(s) in effect at the time of birth.
Persons seeking a determination of acquisition of U.S. citizenship by birth in Slovakia to a U.S. citizen parent should contact the consular section of the embassy in Bratislava by email at consulbratislava@state.gov . Please include the following information:
- Name of the child
- Date of birth of the child
- Name of the parents
- Circumstances whereby one or both parents were U.S. citizens
- Date of the parents’ marriage, if applicable.
- Places of residence of the parents, from the time of their own births until the birth of the child.
