Ambassador Obsitnik Voices Strong Support for NATO Work in Afghanistan

On Thursday January 17 Ambassador Vincent Obsitnik addressed fellow ambassadors, distinguished visitors from countries in the region and members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense at the Globesec conference. Echoing remarks made by panelists throughout the conference that NATO is making progress in Afghanistan, but more needed to be done Ambassador Obsitnik called on NATO countries to honor commitments to the Alliance. Quoting General Pavel Macko, Ambassador Obsitnik said, “Our strategy is to give this country a chance for reconstruction and development and for better conditions.” Ambassador Obsitnik reiterated that the U.S. is committed to success in Afghanistan and is backing that up with an additional 3,000 Marines to be sent to join the ISAF mission.
