Ambassador Vallee Deepens Understanding of U.S. - Slovak Connections During Trip Outside of Bratislava
US Ambassador Rodolphe M. Vallee visited a home for the elderly and the mentally challenged in Nové Mesto nad Váhom on Aug 2, 2007, on a trip to North Central Slovakia. He met with many of the residents of this institution, while they sang traditional Slovak folk songs for him. Afterwards, he traveled to the local sports field to play soccer with the town team. This trip also featured meetings with representatives from two blossoming American companies, Delphi in Senica and SEISA in Myjava. These visits were informative for the Ambassador and prompted discussions on ongoing efforts on the part of the US Embassy to attract American investment to Slovakia. The second day of the trip, Aug 3, began with an environmental excursion to nationally protected land near the small village of Hladovka on the Polish border. Later that day, Ambassador Vallee led a wreath laying ceremony in Trstená, at the monument built in honor of Štefan Furdek, the father of Slovak Americans who is known for organizing Slovaks in Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1900's.
