American Folk Dance Group Partners with Slovak Troupe Lúčnica in Dance Concert
March 31, 2008
The American Folk Dance Ensemble from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, will perform with the Slovak folk dance troupe, Lúčnica, on May 2 at 7:00 pm at Istropolis in Bratislava. The young American dancers present music and choreography from New England, the Appalachian Mountains, southern United States, and the Rocky Mountains. In addition, they perform other dance styles that portray significant periods of the twentieth century in the United States. The troupe includes musicians, singers, and dancers, featuring “Mountain Strings,” the group's folk music ensemble. The performers, all students at Brigham Young University, come from throughout the United States. This group has performed successfully at folk festivals for 50 years. Their dances include those performed by cowboys, American Clogging (step dancing), early American pioneer round dances, and others. For over 50 years, the group has welcomed the opportunity to mix with foreign audiences and teach them American dance forms through interaction.
