Ambassador Vincent Obsitnik hosted a concert at his Bratislava residence on February 13, featuring young American virtuoso violinist Joanna Frankel, recipient of a Career Grant from the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation. For this concert, she was accompanied by Dutch pianist Gerard Boeters. Almost 100 guests enjoyed her program at the residence, which included works by Ginastera, Bach-Gounod, Bazzini and Barber. The event was enriched by a special guest: Slovak poet Zuzana Fapsova, who recited several new poems. She has published in literary magazines and won several competitions. Ms. Frankel is a recent graduate from the Juilliard School in New York, where she won the prestigious William Schuman Prize for artistic excellence, and currently is on an international tour organized by the International Holland Music Sessions, an organization specializing in career development of exceptionally talented young musicians. Ms. Frankel will perform at recitals in the US, Russia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, and the Netherlands. During her visit in Bratislava, she also performed at the Small Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic on February 12, as part of the “New Masters on Tour” program: young musicians from around the world who showcase their talents before foreign audiences and meet other musicians and music teachers.
