Bluegrass Bands from Slovakia, Czech Republic -- and a Kentucky singer -- Appear in Petrzalka
October 6, 2008
A two-day Bluegrass Fest, featuring 23 bands performing in this traditional American musical style, will begin October 10 at Zrkadlovy Haj house of culture in Petrzalka. The distinctive music is rooted in the Scottish-Irish culture of the Appalachian Mountains and features banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and doublebass. This year, a Slovak-American group called Stressed Hedgehog, which was formed in September 2007, will perform. Kentucky singer Carla Schick, who also plays the autoharp, is a new member of the band. For the first time the festival will include workshops dedicated to instruction in typical bluegrass instruments. More information is available at the Festival website.
