Chargé d’Affaires Keith Eddins traveled to Sereď, Zvolen, Humenné, and Košice September 8-10. In Sereď and Zvolen, the Chargé attended Holocaust Remembrance Day events to pay respects to the Slovak victims of the Holocaust. In Humenné, CDA Eddins met with the Mayor of Humenné, Vladimír Kostolík, to discuss the pressing economic concerns of the citizens of Humenné, as well as the status of minorities in Humenné (Humenné is a multi-ethnic town, and is home to eight of Slovakia’s recognized minorities.) CDA Eddins also thanked Kostolík for his town’s welcome of the 98 Palestinian refugees who are temporarily living in Humenné while waiting for permanent resettlement in the United States. Following the meeting with the mayor, CDA Eddins also visited the facility where the refugees are being accommodated by the Slovak government, and was pleased with the excellent situation. In Košice, CDA Eddins met with representatives of U.S. businesses in Eastern Slovakia, to discuss the economic forecast.
