In conjunction with representatives of local and international non-government organizations, the Embassy organized a visit to two "special schools" in central Slovakia on June 24. Charge D’Affaires Keith Eddins and a group of ambassadors and embassy representatives from the United States, Great Britain, Ireland, Romania, Hungary, India, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Canada travelled to Banská Bystrica and Banská Štiavnica to tour primary schools designated for children with mental disabilities. These schools have a high enrollment of Romani children. The visitors had the opportunity to meet the schools’ directors, tour the facilities and interact with children. The ambassadors and other embassy representatives expressed appreciation for the opportunity to observe and learn about certain aspects of the Slovak special education system.
