Czech-American Jazz Musician Leads Workshop in Bratislava

With Embassy support, musician Pavel Wlosok in association with the Slovak Jazz Society conducted a Jazz workshop at Bratislava’s Konzervatórium on July 6-10. During the workshop, which is in its 17th year, students participated in exercises in harmony, rhythm, ensemble playing, and on various instruments. In addition to leading the workshop, Mr. Wlosok gave collaborative jazz performances at the Nu Spirit Bar and at Cycle Jazz Under the Tower in Bratislava on July 7 and 8. Mr. Wlosok, who is of Czech origin, was educated at Janáček Academy of Music in Brno, Czech Republic, and at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. He has been a faculty member at Western Carolina University and is the leader of the band Acoustic Jazz Trio, among various other professional musical activities.
