Deputy Chief of Mission Clarifies U.S. Policy for Up and Coming European Policy Makers

July 3, 2008

Deputy Chief of Mission Lawrence Silverman spoke at the Marshal Andrej Hadik National Academy of Defense in Liptovsky Mikulas on June 30 as part of the Center for European and North Atlantic Affairs (CENAA) summer school program. DCM Silverman, speaking to a diverse international audience with representatives from over a dozen European nations, addressed a wide range of topics in international affairs, including NATO and the Bucharest Summit, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, Kosovo, Russia’s relations with the West, climate change and energy security. The diverse backgrounds of the students in attendance allowed for a uniquely multilateral discussion of several of these issues after DCM Silverman concluded his talk and opened up the floor for questions. The event was part of CENAA’s annual summer school program for the preparation of young professionals in the fields of foreign and security policy.
