Director of Policy Planning at NATO Shares Thoughts on Bucharest Summit
April 24, 2008
Working with the Slovak Atlantic Commission, the Embassy brought the leadership of Slovak policy think-tanks together with a top NATO official via digital video conference (DVC), as part of its series of post-Bucharest Summit briefings -- the first of its kind in Europe. During the April 24 DVC, Jamie Shea, Director of Policy Planning in the Private Office of the Secretary General, spoke enthusiastically about the successes of the summit to a group of Slovak policy experts. These successes included: language in the communiqué declaring that Georgia and Ukraine will become members of NATO, a commitment by all NATO members to work on a missile defense system and the invitation to Croatia and Albania to become members in the Alliance.
