Defense and Transparency Focus of Ambassador's Trip
March 22, 2007
Ambassador Rodolphe Vallee combined U.S.-Slovak military relations and the Embassy’s emphasis on transparency and ethics in his trip to Liptovsky Mikulas and Martin on March 22-23. He addressed students and faculty of the National Security Course in a presentation: “U.S. Cooperation with Slovakia within NATO Activities.” An energetic discussion on military cooperation and U.S. policy followed. Representatives of the National Academy of Defence said this was a unique opportunity for students and faculty and provided them with first-hand information about the U.S. government’s position on NATO cooperation and Kosovo. Ambassador Vallee later visited the NCO Academy, a training unit for military missions and Basic School of Training and Support Command of the Slovak Armed Forces in Martin. Also in Martin, he participated in a festival and workshop hosted by the Association of Slovak Local Television Broadcasters. His speech there focused on "Transparency and Ethics in the Media" in keeping with this year's topic, ethical codes of journalists. The audience appreciated his examples from American media experience.
