Embassy Community Volunteers Pitch in to Make "Our Bratislava" a Better Place, in Petržalka

A team of volunteers from the Embassy community, old and young, joined other Bratislava citizens for the third annual "Naša Bratislava" (Our Bratislava) city beautification effort on June 13. The site assigned to them was Lepší Svet, a social services facility in Petržalka, where painting playground equipment, shoveling and hauling concrete for a new surface were the tasks of the day. In all, 22 Embassy employees, family members and friends contributed their labor for one morning. Corporate volunteers also participated -- a total of 1,100 volunteers from 39 companies and organizations. They joined 52 projects at 43 non-governmental organizations and donated a total of more than 3,500 hours of work. Similar events take place in Košice, Žilina and Belgrade. The volunteer effort in Bratislava is organized by the Pontis Foundation.
