Embassy Names Fair-Play Alliance’s Zuzana Wienk for Woman of Courage Award

Chargé D’Affaires Keith Eddins on April 6 announced that Zuzana Wienk of Fair-Play Alliance had received the Embassy’s nomination for the Secretary of State’s International Woman of Courage Award. Ms. Wienk founded the non-governmental organization Fair-Play Alliance in 2002, and developed it into one of the most respected watchdog organizations in Slovakia. She has successfully established long-term oversight mechanisms to track the intersection of politics and business, and boldly denounces instances of corruption. Ms. Wienk has endured attacks in the press from the Slovak government, yet continues undeterred in her quest to improve Slovakia’s democratic structures. The U.S. Embassy is proud to support Ms. Wienk’s efforts and those of other activists who work to improve the quality of Slovakia’s democracy by increasing transparency and ethics in government.
