Embassy Officers Discuss Super Tuesday with High School Students in Slovakia

February 5, 2008

On February 5, known this election season in the United States as "Super Tuesday," twelve officers from the embassy traveled to 21 different high schools from Michalovce to Bratislava to talk about the primary elections and the political system in America. While the students had varying familiarity with the U.S. Electoral system, all who participated eagerly used the chance to interact with an American who could shed light on a sometimes mysterious process. Questions ranged from probing basic precepts of American democracy to the technicalities of the Democratic Party's use of super delegates. The U.S. officers valued the experience because it gave them the welcome opportunity to learn more about their host country by interacting with Slovaks outside their official routine.
