Embassy recognizes diversity of Slovak folk music at holiday party
Peter Kustar and his folk music ensemble were the special guests of the Public Affairs Section’s holiday party, hosted December 11 at the residence of Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Lawrence Silverman. The Slovak group performed a variety of traditional songs, including Jewish klezmer music, Slovak Christmas carols, Hungarian, Roma and Ruthenian. Approximately 65 guests enjoyed the performance. In keeping with the evening’s theme of ethnic diversity, Mr. Silverman spoke about the richness of the Slovak culture and other ethnic and religious groups in Slovakia. Among the guests were members of Slovakia's academic, cultural, media and government communities. The holiday party also served as an opportunity for newly-arrived Ambassador Vincent Obsitnik to deliver short remarks in Slovak and to meet Embassy acquaintances.
