Embassy Supports Weekend-long Country Trh Music Festival in Central Slovakia

Hundreds of Slovaks flocked to the Embassy supported “Country Trh” music festival held in the central Slovak town of Raztočno to hear country bands from the United States, Canada the Czech Republic and even home-grown Slovak bands. Information Officer Keith Hughes traveled to the July 11-12 event to help open the weekend of song and dance. After saying a few words in Slovak, welcoming the participants and encouraging the audience to dance, the master of ceremonies and the audience demanded a song. After a few bars of “Rock Island Line,” the festival was declared open. Besides country acts, the festival featured square dance and other folk troupe performances between sets. The festival was extensively covered by local television station RTV Prievidza.
