9/11 After Five Years
Ambassador Rodolphe Vallee took part in three commemoration events on September
11: at the State Scientific Library in Banska Bystrica, the Slovak Pedagogical
Library in Petrzalka and with Prime Minister Robert Fico and Foreign Minister
Jan Kubis (above) at the American Embassy. These photos show some of the
expressions of sympathy from Slovaks. PM Fico lighted a candle in remembrance of
the 9/11 victims in a simple ceremony. Mr. Kurhajec from NGO Ferdinand de
Martineng gave a "broken heart" and the Bratislava City Fire Department,
represented by M. Kopounek and Mr. Timko, presented a helmet with signatures as
a tribute to Fire Department of New York.
