Embassy Supports Alternative Energy

To meet energy security needs, Slovakia and the U.S. have both targeted the development of a wide range of alternative energy sources, including biofuels, biomass, hydropower, geothermal, solar and wind. Ambassador Vallee and two Embassy officers visited Slovak research facilities October 30, one at Zvolen University and the other at the Agricultural University of Nitra, where this biofuel station is located. Slovak research on alternative energy has focused largely on developing biofuel- and biomass-based heat and power production for use in local and regional markets. The Embassy is working with research institutes to support their search for new American university and commercial partners.
