US Foreign Commercial Attaché David Ponsar in InfoUSA Banska Bystrica

On Wednesday 8 November 2006 InfoUSA Banska Bystrica together with the U.S. embassy in Slovakia organized a lecture by David Ponsar of the Commercial department of the U.S. embassy to University and High School students. The lecture's title was "How U.S. Commercial Service at the U.S. Embassy assists U.S. companies to enter the Slovak market".

Because the lecture by Mr. Ponsar attracted attention of high school students as well as university students and their teachers we decided to make use of the State Scientific Library (host institution) and its conference room. Still, the number of interested students was too high to fit into one room at once so David met first with the high school students and afterwards he discussed economics with the students from the Faculty of Economics.

Each student received an InfoUSA folder and bookmark and some brochures about economics (Sustainable Economies & Language of Trade), and the teachers were given some teaching materials as well, because of the shortage of quality English language books and brochures at Slovak schools in the region.

Both lectures were informal discussions so that students would get a chance to ask questions of their interests and also practice their English. They all enjoyed the discussion as they don't get many opportunities to listen to foreign experts. The teachers and the lecturers took pleasure in the give and take, which covered topics from the US elections to the US system of government.
