University of Vermont Band Entertains and Enlightens Slovaks
On Sunday January 7, and Monday January 8, the University of Vermont Wind Band performed for audiences in Dolna Krupa and Bratislava. The band, conducted by D. Thomas Toner, played a series of pieces that traced the history of American musical compositions for wind ensembles. Not only did the band entertain through a musical history lesson of the United States, but it exemplified the diversity in the U.S. educational system. The band is typical of U.S. university bands in that it is comprised of non-music majors, as well as students studying music, a marked difference from musical groups at Slovak schools. On Monday night, Ambassador Vallee hosted the band in his home, where they entertained 50 guests.
