African-inspired mask painting by Daniel Brunovsky

Walcott's Poetry Published in Slovak for First Time

On February 22 the Embassy marked the first time that Nobel Prize-winning author Derek Walcott’s works have ever been translated into Slovak. The launch of this book of poems, A Stone on the Seabed, coincides with Black History Month, a time when the achievements of African-Americans are celebrated. Deputy Chief of Mission Lawrence Silverman hosted the launch and poetry reading at his residence, along with an exhibit of selected paintings by Slovak artist Daniel Brunovsky who illustrated the book. Dado Nagy and Marian Geisberg provided the readings.
