U.S. Embassy Celebrates Roma Life and Culture

To celebrate Roma life and culture in the Slovak Republic, Ambassador Rodolphe Vallee hosted a reception on March 13 at his residence. The program for the reception, "Roma in Their Own Voice" consisted of song, dance, photography and film that paint a picture of contemporary Roma life in Slovakia - and how Roma people themselves portray it. The evening featured: a performance by the Roma Children's Choir CESPOM from Lučenec; a short documentary about Terna women's professional training produced by the Roma Press Agency; the poetry of Dezider Banga - a Roma poet and fairy-tale writer- as read by actor Štefan Bučko; a short film based on a Banga poem by Ana Njemoga-Kolar; and Roma songs performed by singer Janka Sendreiová and guitar players Zolo Bykeš and Jaro Nemec.
