Fulbright Commission, Embassy Personnel Mark International Education Week in Four Cities
November 24, 2008
Representatives of the Fulbright Commission and the Embassy's American Reference Center (ARC) traveled to four university centers -- Trnava, Prešov, Košice and Ružomberok -- November 20-22 to explain their resources as part of International Education Week. In the Slovak Republic, it has become a tradition to organize seminars, discussions and presentations on educational possibilities in the United States during the third week of November to celebrate the IEW. This year's "advising tour" began in the city of Trnava -- a lively academic center near the capital city of Bratislava with two important universities. The presentation was held at the University Library at Trnava University. The lectures continued in two very important university towns in Eastern Slovakia, Prešov and Košice. Hosts for the events were the University Library of Prešov University and InfoUSA at the State Scientific Library in Košice. In this part of the country, there are four important universities with a large number of perspective students interested in pursuing studies in the United States. In spite of all Internet resources, students appreciated discussing their questions in person. Presentations focused on the college application process and financing of undergraduate and graduate studies. The Embassy's American Reference Center distributed the latest US government-produced publications and advertised its other products and services. Participating in the three-day tour were Fulbright Commission Executive Director Nora Hložeková and Educational Adviser Mária Paniaková, and ARC Director Paula Holotňáková and Audio-Visual Specialist Igor Schneeweiss.
