The International Festival of Local Television Stations -- "The Golden Beggar" -- has provided a brilliant opportunity to present the creativity and professional skills of local and city television stations for the last 14 years. Each year TV filmmakers, media experts and professors of media and communications meet in Košice, the second largest city in Slovakia. Participants come from all over the world, but especially from Europe, the U.S. and Canada. This year the festival takes place from June 17 to 20 and it will host 150 domestic and foreign participants – TV producers and media experts from 27 countries. The festival is organized by City TV Foundation and will be held under the auspices of the Slovak Minister of Culture Marek Maďarič. The U.S. Embassy Bratislava has been a partner and a supporter of the Golden Beggar Festival from its very beginning. This year’s grant enabled organizers to invite Eric Mollberg from the U.S., who will represent The Alliance for Community Media. Mr. Mollberg will be a member of the International Jury and a panelist in the discussion: "Culture Industry up Against Creative Challenge." This year’s competition will have for the first time an American entry in the category, "Young Author."
