![]() |
The Association for Culture, Education and Communication (ACEC) on April 16 hosted "Gypsy Spirit," an event in Bratislava to award organizations and individuals who have improved the situation of the Roma minority in Slovakia and supported their development. The Embassy, which also works on this goal, supported one of the award winners: the non-government organization, ETP. ETP Slovakia – Centre for Sustainable Development – was established in 1992 as a consulting and educational NGO as part of a program (Environmental Training Project for Central and Eastern Europe) implemented by USAID in six countries. Its mission is to support regional development, protect the environment and assist in the development of socially disadvantaged groups and ethnic minorities. ETP Slovakia will train social workers in Eastern Slovakia with an Embassy grant. US Steel received a prize for long-term support by a business of projects focusing on social aid and Roma community support. The aim of the Gypsy Spirit Awards is to create a tradition in recognizing advancements in the Roma community and to promote a more positive picture of the Roma in Slovakia.
