| Nove Zamky City Library Deputy Director, Mgr. Ľubica Červená discusses her favorite panel on Slovak literary figures with Information Officer Keith Hughes. |
Information Officer Keith Hughes opened the Embassy-sponsored historic photo exhibit, "Slovakia, Slovaks and Connections on Historic Postcards and Photographs," in Nove Zamky on May 19. In his remarks to the crowd of library goers and media, Mr. Hughes said, “as an American diplomat whose job is to increase exchanges between Slovaks and Americans, this exhibit is very special to me because it highlights the very deep and very personal relationship between Slovaks and Americans.” The historic photo project is the result of an international collaborative program in conserving photographs at the Slovak National Library, funded by the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles, and is traveling throughout Slovakia. One theme of the exhibit is the Slovak-US connection over the years -- introducing "pioneers" of Slovak life in the US, explaining the social and sports life of Slovaks in the USA, the contribution of Slovak-Americans to the beginning of Slovak cinematography and Slovak literature in the US.
