"Imagine America": Slovak, American Photos in 9/11 Exhibit at Embassy
Ambassador Rodolphe M. Vallee welcomed Prime Minister Robert Fico to the Embassy Art Space to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a compelling collection of photos entitled "Imagine America: Photo Landscapes, Real and Imagined." Prime Minister Fico spoke eloquently about the strength and depth of U.S.–Slovak connections and affirmed the friendship between the two nations. Ambassador Vallee invited guests in attendance to view the exhibit as a place to begin dialogues about how America has been shaped by September 11, and how this altered America moves forward. The collection features the work of three Slovak artists - Ivan Čaniga, Róbert Kočan and Martin Kollár - and one American, Rick Dingus. The Texan photographer's images capture the cultural nuances of a place currently at a crossroads, the Texas High Plains - facing changes in demographics, the decline of cattle ranching, shifting economies, and coping with the longest drought in modern history since 1921. Through his artwork, Dingus asks provocative questions about technology, disappearing resources, oil, water, constructed realities and mythical histories. These photographs will be on display from September 11 to October 26. For more information please e-mail contact_Bratislava@state.gov
