New Agreement Extends Cooperation between InfoUSA, State Scientific Library in Banska Bystrica
September 4, 2008
On September 2, the Director of the State Scientific Library in Banská Bystrica, Oľga Lauková, and the Embassy's Public Affairs Officer Edward Kemp signed a revised Memorandum of Understanding to continue partnership in the American information and cultural center, known as InfoUSA Banská Bystrica. These partners have jointly operated the InfoUSA center since September 2005. In its three years of existence, the center has become a vibrant institution and proved to be not only a home of learning, but also an effective venue for the public of Central Slovakia to learn about American life and culture. Among the many programs hosted at the center are: speaker programs, discussion clubs, series of American films, interactive lessons for high school students, as well as various art exhibits. After the signing, the event continued with the opening of a new exhibit, "Reflections/Odrazy," by American artist Jessica Perry and her Slovak students. Jessica Perry has been in residence at Jozef Vydra School of Applied Arts in Bratislava on a Fulbright Teacher exchange. Keith Eddins, Deputy Chief of Mission, in his opening remarks said: "I am proud that the Embassy can once again bring to the public the synergy between young American and Slovak artists and their stimulating results."
