Ambassador Weiser Presents Book Donations to Slovak Universities
Bratislava, November 20, 2003
At a reception November 19 organized by the bilateral Fulbright Commission in recognition of International Education Week, U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia Ronald Weiser presented $5,000 checks to six Slovak academic libraries for the purchase of books.
Recipients were the Slovak Pedagogical Library, Bratislava; Slovak Center for Scientific and Technical Information, Bratislava; Zilina University Library; University of Economics, Bratislava; Technical University, Kosice; and Catholic University, Ruzomberok.
International Education Week is celebrated this year from November 17-21 in the United States and American embassies around the world. During this week, U.S. embassies carry out activities to recognize the importance of educational exchange in building positive relations among nations and securing a better future for all countries.
Previously, the U.S. Embassy gave similar $5,000 book donations to 10 other Slovak academic libraries. This effort represents American support for Slovakia's strong education system and the Embassy's commitment to enhancing academic ties between the U.S. and Slovakia through such outstanding institutions as the bilateral Fulbright Commission, which manages academic exchanges.
