Bratislava, December 20, 2004
With the departure of Ambassador Ronald Weiser, Scott N. Thayer has become the chargé d'affaires, a.i. of the U.S. Embassy in Bratislava.
Mr. Thayer, a career member of the Foreign Service since 1980, arrived in Slovakia as Deputy Chief of Mission in August, 2002. He previously served in Vienna, Austria; Madrid, Spain; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; and Guadalajara, Mexico, as well as in Washington and New York. He speaks Slovak and Spanish. A more detailed biography is attached.
"Slovakia is a close ally and partner of the United States. The Slovak people should be proud of their accomplishments and their place in the world today. I am very pleased to have this opportunity to further develop the U.S.-Slovak relationship," Mr. Thayer said.
Ambassador Weiser departed December 19 after serving three years in Slovakia. The appointment process for a new Ambassador to the Slovak Republic will probably take several months.
