U.S. Charge d'Affaires Condemns Attack on Slovak Embassy

Bratislava, June 13, 2005

Charge d'Affaires Scott Thayer issued the following statement today regarding the June 11 attack on the Slovak Embassy in Baghdad:

"The Embassy of the United States of America in Bratislava condemns strongly the attack on the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Baghdad on Saturday. We are relieved that no Slovak citizens were injured, and we wish to extend our sympathy and best wishes to the Iraqi security personnel who were injured.

The bombing is particularly despicable because Slovakia's purpose in Iraq is to help the Iraqi people build a free and democratic country. Slovakia has been generous in sharing its democratization experience with Iraqi citizens and officials, while Slovak soldiers have engaged in the dangerous but necessary humanitarian work of removing deadly mines. Once again, terrorists have demonstrated their primary goal is destruction. Only if all of us stand together can terrorism be defeated."
