Slovak American Publishes Book of Poetry Inspired by Slovakia

Bratislava, December 14, 2006

On December 14 at 5 pm, a book of poetry by American, Allan Stevo, entitled Somewhere between Bratislava and DC will be released at the Info USA Center in the University Library at Venturska 11, Bratislava. There will be a brief presentation of poetry, refreshments and discussion with the author.

Somewhere between Bratislava and DC is a collection of poems - poems about life for Mr. Stevo in the US and in Slovakia, lessons learned from his students, and some reflection on religion. The poems are connected by a common theme described in the title. It deals with a love that spans the Atlantic and a love for two cultures that leaves the author torn.

The Author is a Slovak-American who came to Bratislava to more fully understand his Slovak heritage. "Once here," says the author, "poems emerged from my writing; I put them together in a collection and shared them with a few friends." Positive feedback from friends and professionals convinced Mr. Stevo to publish the works of poetry.

The book is self-published- the English version written by Mr. Stevo, the Slovak version by Ms. Martina Polakova. Each of the 66 poems are presented in both Slovak and English, the cover illustration was created by local artist Fero Liptak, a man whose work, for the author, represents Bratislava as much as Bratislava Castle.
