Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Maura Harty to Hold Press Conference

On Monday May 7, 2007 Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Maura Harty will hold a press conference at the U.S. Embassy beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Harty will be in Bratislava to attend a conference for U.S. Consular Officers from the European region. While in Bratislava Assistant Secretary Harty will meet with Ambassador Ľubor Bystrický and Ambassador Miroslav Lajčák at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Assistant Secretary Harty will discuss protection of American citizens and other issues including the Visa Waiver Program.

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Maura Harty has served as head of Consular Affairs since November 2002. The bureau of Consular Affairs is responsible for the work that is fundamental to the mission of the Department of State: To protect the lives and interests of American citizens overseas and to protect U.S. border security and the freedom to travel through the conscientious adjudication of U.S. passports and visas.
