Public Media Conference Taps into European and American Expertise
A conference entitled “Public Media in Slovakia: How to best serve the interests of the wider public,” took place in Bratislava April 23-24, with Embassy support. Members of the TV and Radio councils, Parliamentarians, Ministry of Culture Media Section representatives, academics, journalists and civic activists engaged with international experts in this forum. The conference was organized by the Slovak Syndicate of Journalist with support from the European Commission, as well as British, French, Finish, Austrian and U.S embassies. Fulbright professor Rhoda L. Lipton from Columbia University outlined several aspects of the American tradition and current situation in public broadcasting in her presentation: “Influence of the Consumers organizations on the TV Broadcasting.” Other topics covered: Public Media in the Service of Public, Relationship between the State and Public Media and Public Media in the Competition Environment. The conference was extensively covered by national media.
