Rep. Adam Schiff discusses Kosovo, media law during Slovakia visit

March 19, 2008

Congressman Adam B. Schiff, who represents California's 29th Congressional District, visited Slovakia March 19. The visit was his first to the country since 1992, when he spent six months here on a Department of State-sponsored judicial exchange program. His meetings in March primarily focused on two areas: foreign policy including Kosovo, NATO and Russia with Diana Strofova from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other officials at the ministry, Chair for the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Boris Zala, and former Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan. He also discussed rule of law issues with NGOs and think tanks with a special focus on the legislative proposals for NGOs, media and freedom of information. Rep. Schiff is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School and has been a Democratic member of the House of Representatives since 2001. In 2007, he became a member of the House Appropriations Committee. During his tenure in Congress, he has focused on bolstering national security, strengthening communities, and introducing a "Kids First" agenda of initiatives to improve education, safety, and health care for children.
