Sister Parks Agreement Signed in Zakopane

U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia Rodolphe M. Vallee and U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe were in Zakopane on September 12 to witness the signing of a sister parks agreement between Tatra National Park Poland, Tatra National Park Slovakia and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  The agreement developed after a series of U.S. government-sponsored exchanges between the parks.  At the ceremony, Ambassador Ashe noted that Tatra National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park both are major tourist attractions, with each park attracting more than 3 million visitors annually.  The new agreement will help the parks share expertise on such issues as sustainable tourism and park management through cooperative projects and training of park personnel.  The Superintendent of Rocky Mountain National Park, Vaughn Baker, and Directors of both Tatra National Parks Pawel Skawinski, Pavol Majko and Petr Liska signed the agreement.  An exhibition with pictures from all three parks will be in the Tatra National Park Poland headquarters until the end of September.
