Slovak Atlantic Commission's 15th Anniversary, President Wilson Celebrated on December 18

December 5, 2008

The Slovak Atlantic Commission this year celebrates the 15th anniversary of its founding with a series of events on December 18. The Slovak organization's overall goal is to support Euro-Atlantic relations and the transatlantic pillar of Slovak foreign and security policy. At a gala reception, SAC will unveil a newly designed plaque commemorating President Woodrow Wilson's contribution to the independence of Czechoslovakia. In December 1918, Bratislava received the temporary name of "Wilson City," in honor of Wilson's commitment to freedom for the populations of Central Europe in the wake of World War I. Another highlight of the day-long anniversary program will be speeches by Dr. John C. Hulsman, a Scholar in Residence at the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, where he handles the transatlantic and Middle East portfolios. Hulsman is the face of the Council on all aspects of transatlantic relations, having given the inaugural speech for the von Oppenheim Center on, "A New Way Forward for Transatlantic Relations toward the Greater Middle East." His expertise is particularly centered on forging common transatlantic polices regarding Iran, Iraq, the War on Terror, and the Middle East Peace Process. He will speak on expected US foreign policy trends in the Obama Adminstration at the InfoUSA Conference Room, University Library.
