Slovak Medical Schools Get Department of Education Approval, Opening Doors to Exchanges
April 14, 2008
In a letter sent on April 14 U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings notified Slovakia that the National Council on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation has determined that Slovak standards for accreditation of medical schools are comparable to those in the United States. This notification is a significant breakthrough that will allow Slovak medical students to apply their work in Slovak medical schools to schools in the United States and enable U.S. students to study at Slovak medical schools without interrupting progress towards their U.S. degree. The Embassy worked closely with the Ministry of Education in Slovakia and the Department of Education providing communication, advocacy and advice over the course of two years to make this boon to higher education exchanges between the two countries a reality.
