September 21, 2007

The Government of the United States and Government of Slovakia, on the occasion of this jointly sponsored anticorruption seminar, have recognized a common goal of strengthening efforts to fight corruption both on a domestic and international level.

As Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (Convention), we further recognize the importance of the Convention’s comprehensive commitments as a guideline for domestic and international action against corruption.  With 90 parties and 140 signatories, the Convention has become the global standard for international anticorruption efforts and cooperation. We acknowledge that the aims and goals of the Convention will only be reached if all Parties fully implement its provisions.

We pledge today to establish and maintain close contacts between our national experts in future work to implement the Convention in our respective countries.

We also pledge today to establish and maintain close contacts between our experts as we participate in the Convention’s Conference of the States Parties process and look for ways to assist each other and other States Parties in our efforts to promote widespread implementation of the Convention on a global level.
