The Regional English Language teacher trainer at the Methodological and Pedagogical Centre in Kosice on May 27 organized a workshop in Michalovce for English language teachers from Eastern Slovakia’s multi-ethnic schools. The aim of the workshop: inform teachers and headmasters about the results of the summer camp, "Teaching Tolerance through English", which took place at Lake Balaton last summer and was supported by the US Embassy. Summer camp participants come from communities where different ethnic groups live side by side, and where practical skills and experience to improve mutual tolerance are still developing. Participating teacher Ms. Ivana Porvazníková from the primary school in Michalovce shared her experiences with other Slovak English teachers and provided new methods for teaching tolerance. This summer, the Embassy in cooperation with the Regional English Language Office in Budapest will support two groups from Eastern Slovakia (1 teacher and 6 students for each group) to take part in the Balaton summer camp. Ms Porvazníková was selected to attend the TESOL Convention in Denver and EFL Educators Workshop in Washington in March for 40 teachers and teacher trainers from Africa, Asia, America and Europe.
