US Military Working Dogs to Train in Hronsek

Bratislava, September 20, 2007

BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA- Specially trained Military Working Dogs, along with their handlers and Kennel Master; from the United States Air Forces’s 39th Security Forces Squadron will be flown front their home station, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey to Slovakia.  There mission is to familiarize the Slovak Military Police on how the US trains and deploys its dogs.  The US team, consisting of three personnel and two working dogs, will spend 5 days in Hronsek during the 24-28 September.

The Military Working Dog Section provides explosive and narcotic detection capabilities to ensure a secure environment for its NATO mission.   As part of the familiarization, the US team will compare US and Slovak Working Dog methodology, as well as discuss plans of instruction, equipment and exercise used to train the dogs for both narcotic and bomb detection.

This event is part of US European Command’s (EUCOM) Military-to-Military Contact Program, managed by eh US Embassy, Bratislava’s Office of Defense Cooperation.  This, and some 450 other mil-to-mil contact events, are planned, coordinated and funded each year throughout Europe, Eurasia, and Africa, by the United States European Command’s Directorate of Logistics and Security Assistance from their headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany.  Since 1993, EUCOM through its Mil-to-Mil Programs have executed over 800 mil-to-mil events in bilateral cooperation between the US and Slovak military forces.

Media:  On Tuesday, 25 September at 13.30 hours, the media to include photographers will be invited to attend a presentation from the US Air Force Military Working Dog section in conjunction with the Slovak Military Police in the Hronsek Military Police Headquarters.
