Emergency Green Card Replacement

The Embassy cannot provide replacement of Permanent Resident cards ("green cards") or extend the validity of expired card. However, if your card has been lost or stolen, or expired during your trip, you may come to the Embassy to apply for a boarding foil to travel back to the United States.

Please note that issuance of a Boarding Foil may take up to five working days.

Please be advised that in order to obtain a boarding foil, we must be able to determine that you are in status as a Lawful Permanent Resident. It will help if you provide proof of your current legal permanent resident status (A# or a photocopy of your green card, etc.). You must also prove that you have last resided in the U.S. less than one year ago. You will also need to:

  • Submit your valid passport;
  • Provide one recent photo size 5x5 cm;
  • Provide air ticket or boarding pass showing the last departure from the U.S;
  • Bring completed Form I-90. We will use this for your application and return it so you can submit it in the U.S.; we do not issue the new card here. Do not use the Form I-90 for electronic submission; complete and print the paper form;
  • Bring a police report if you reported your card lost or stolen;
  • There is no longer a fee for this service.
