Young Leaders from the Balkans Bring Message of NATO Integration to the Region
A whistle-stop tour, organized by the Slovak Atlantic Council with support from Embassy Bratislava, gathered 20 leaders from Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria at a conference on a train rolling through the Balkans and dubbed "The Globesec Express." The purpose of the conference was to discuss solutions to remaining hurdles to Balkan countries’ membership in NATO. Kicking off the conference was a video conference, held on board the train, between the participants and NATO Secretary General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer. During the DVC, facilitated by Embassy Bratislava, the Secretary General lauded the young leaders for tackling hard issues still facing their nations and described his vision of establishing a Europe that is "whole and free."
