Young Roma Volunteers from "Pre Pindre" Organization Conduct Training in Vyšné Ružbachy

October 27, 2008

Young Roma volunteers from community centers in Roškovce and Petrová, under the direction of the Slovak NGO "Pre pindre," took part in the training of adults in Vyšné Ružbachy in mid-September. Supported by a grant from the Embassy, this training at the grassroots level aimed to create a schedule of educational and free-time activities for children and young people in the community. The adult volunteers learned how to work with children in groups, set rules for the after-school centers and solve typical problems. The Roma volunteers had acquired these same skills during summer activities in Roskovce and Petrova community centers. In discussion with other volunteers, they determined the roles of the centers, special needs in educational and free-time activities and barriers to participation in these activities. The project has been supported by the US Embassy to increase the level of social inclusion of children and youth living in marginalized Roma communities in Petrová and Roškovce through non-formal education.
