Young Slovak Academy Artists Get an Opportunity to Shine at U.S. Ambassador’s Residence

June 11, 2009

In support of the Embassy’s goal to encourage young Slovak artists – and to show their works to American audiences – three students artists from Bratislava’s Academy of Fine Arts and Design will display paintings and prints in permanent exhibit at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence, starting June 11. Charge d’Affaires Keith Eddins and the Embassy’s Political Counselor Susan Ball opened the exhibit on that date with a reception for the artists, their families and friends and other young guests of the Embassy. The concept of the show was Ms Ball’s, who was looking for new works to brighten the Residence and an opportunity to promote talented Slovak artists. The Embassy has a long relationship with the Academy and has sponsored several exhibits of student work in the Embassy building itself. The works will be seen by guests of the U.S. Government in Slovakia. The three students are all in the Master’s studies program: Martin Ševčovič, Petr Včelka and Marína Pavlovičová, promising talents who have already presented their works in several projects and both group and individual exhibitions. Martin Ševčovič is in the first year of his Master’s studies in the Studio of Free Graphics, where he studies under the supervision of Prof. Róbert Jančovič. At the Residence he presents 14 graphics and 3 series. Petr Včelka, who studies for his second year with Prof. Dušan Kállay at the Studio of Free Graphics, exhibits the cycle “Faces of Dorian Gray,“ inspired by Oscar Wilde’s novel. And Marína Pavlovičová, a first-year student of Prof. Róbert Jančovič, presents her cycle of five relatively independent pictures under the title, "Searching for Identity of a Close Person/Individual."
