The Foundation for a Civil Society (FCS) with affiliates in 10 countries throughout Central Europe and the Balkans has organized a major international fellowship award program for young visual artists for the past two decades, starting in Czechoslovakia in 1990. This highly successful annual program with national exhibitions and awards, including travel fellowships to New York City for artists under the age of 35, now comprises the following countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Albania and Bulgaria.

This year the 21st anniversary of the awards program is being celebrated at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, with the support of Ambassador Sedgwick and the U.S. Embassy. An international art exhibition – entitled Ironapplause.net – will remain on display at the gallery until February 26, 2012. The exhibition is on display on the third floor of Esterhazy Palace.
